Sometimes, the best stories start where you least expect them. For Young Outlaw Music, it all began with a chance encounter on a quiet Georgia afternoon, just fifteen minutes north of Atlanta.

While out walking the dogs, something unusual appeared in the middle of this suburban neighborhood — an armadillo. Not timid, not shy, but striding straight toward us, dogs included. We were all frozen, a little stunned by this unexpected show of confidence. Born and raised in New York, I couldn’t help but be blown away by the quiet strength and muscle this little creature carried. He wasn’t scared. He wasn’t backing down. He was simply being himself.

I managed to snap a few pictures before he looked up at me, decided he’d made his point, and scurried off. But the image stuck with me.

Later that same day, Briana and I went shopping — and what did we find? A lamp shaped like a white and gold armadillo. Call it coincidence, call it kismet, but it felt like a sign. We had been searching for the perfect logo to capture the heart of Young Outlaw Music, and here it was, walking straight into our path.

The armadillo became our outlaw spirit animal — strong, resilient, a little unexpected, but unforgettable once you’ve seen it. It’s a reminder that music, much like that little armored traveler, carves its own path no matter where it shows up.

As for the name Gary… well, that’s a story we’ll save for another day.
